Concussion Symposium - Advances in Understanding & Management
The AFL Wishes to announce Allen Sills, MD, FACS has agreed to be the keynote speaker for the upcoming Concussion Symposium – Advances in Understanding & Management, to be held at the Glasshouse, Olympic Park, Melbourne on Thursday March 23.
Allen Sills, MD, FACS is a neurosurgeon who is Professor in the departments on Neurological Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the Vanderbilt University Medical Centre in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a founder and co-director of the Vanderbilt Sports Concussion Centre and specializes in the treatment of athletes with neurological problems. Dr. Sills serves as the neurological consultant to the National Football League (NFL), the NCAA, the International Equestrian Foundation (FEI) and is a member of the Concussion In Sport Group which creates and publishes the worldwide standards for concussion care. He has served as consulting neurosurgeon to a number of college and professional sports teams in all major North American leagues and currently serves this role for the Nashville Predators (NHL), the Nashville Sounds (AAA baseball), all Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, and Mississippi State University athletic teams, and the US Olympic Equestrian teams. He also serves as a neurological consultant for ABC News and Men's Health magazine. He is actively engaged in research on new methods of concussion assessment and treatment, along with minimally invasive spine surgery in athletes. Dr. Sills is a fellow of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is extensively involved in concussion education outreach events throughout Tennessee. He has also been named as one of the "Top Doctors in the Southeast" by Castle Connolly for each of the last eleven years.
