2016 Volunteer of the Year Winners

NSW/ACT - Neil Dunn

Neil Dunn is the Chair of Tamworth AFL Junior Steering Committee and was instrumental in driving the formation of the AFL Tamworth Junior Competition in season 2016 which was in recess. Neil’s hard work with the 4 local clubs and dedication to junior participation meant 4 new Junior teams were created in season 2016 from nothing and roughly 60 local kids are now participating in our sport which seemed like impossibility not long ago.

NT - Janette Wray

Janette has been part of the Waratah FC Committee for the past 9 years and is currently the Head Trainer for the past 7 years for most of the clubs teams. It’s not uncommon to see Janette at trainings on Monday, Wednesday & Friday Nights and followed by attendance to games every Saturday and Sunday. She’s always the last at training cleaning up after everyone and always puts her hand up to help wherever she can throughout the Waratah FC.

QLD - Shane Jurgens

Shane is currently President of University Hawks in AFL Townsville and has provided 13 years of outstanding service. He has been directly involved in the following activations-

Established a new home ground for University Hawks after years of hard work

Incorporated a partnership with Shalom College to transition indigenous     participants to the sport and to his club

Organised an indigenous round for AFL Townsville with many clubs supporting it

Instigated club education sessions on alcohol awareness & player code of     conducts

SA - Warwick Giles

Warwick has provided 5 years of service to Football in the Far North region of South Australia. His current title is Vice President of the Roxby Down Junior Football Association but at the same time he’s also the Junior Umpire Coordinator, Under 9s Coach, Ground Manager, Umpires in the Under 12’s & 15’s competition and if time permits that weekend, runs water/plays/umpires in the Senior A Grade competition if numbers are short and he’s required.

TAS - David Galloway

David has provided 10 years of service to Football in the North East of Tasmania.  His volunteer roles and involvement in Community Football have included:

180+ games of senior football for Scottsdale Crows

Re-opened a closed Auskick Centre in the local area and was Head Coach & Coordinator

Took on the Football Operations Manager role at North Eastern Football Union in 2015

Remains Club Secretary, Football Manager & Bar Manager of Scottsdale Crows

VIC - Jane Steicke

Jane has been on the committee of the Woorinen FNC for over 25 years and over that time has held various roles. Of late she’s now the Canteen & Catering Manager where she’s in charge of serving 150+ meals every Thursday Night out of a borrowed caravan after the Woorinen Clubrooms burnt down in 2015. Jane goes as far to pay for meals herself for players who are unable to afford it and she performs all her duties for the club on a voluntary basis to ensure Woorinen FNC is able to survive.

WA - Dave Burton

Dave has served the Football industry of West Perth for the last 16 years across a variety of clubs and roles. Currently he is President of the Joondalup Women’s FC which he helped start from the ground up.  Previously he was President of the Quinn’s Junior FC from 2000 where he held a variety of roles over his 10 year involvement and most recently he’s been also working with Wanneroo AFC, Whitford AFC and Kingsley AFC to help grow their female football strategies and grow their participation numbers in female football.
