AFL Launches 2014 NESB Focus Groups

Friday, May 02, 2014

The AFL is proud to have launched the inaugural AFL NESB Focus Groups.

The first of three sessions to be held in 2014 was conducted in Melbourne at AFL Headquarters on April 29, attended by 25 key multicultural community leaders from African, Chinese, Indian and Middle Eastern backgrounds.

AFL Head of Diversity Jason Mifsud said the AFL NESB Focus Groups have been formed to ensure cultural insights are captured from people of non-English speaking backgrounds to enrich the future plans of the Australia Post AFL Multicultural program.

“We believe that the AFL Focus Group is pivotal to the growth of our diversity and international programs and we would like to thank all members of the group for contributing their time and ideas to enrich and develop our programs and to ensure a positive outcome for participants and the community.

“The first session was very well attended and we had some fantastic discussions and exciting ideas put forward.

“It is important that people from non-English speaking backgrounds are engaged by the AFL to provide input into targeted multicultural strategies. This will ensure that any plans and investments are informed by appropriate cultural insights and expertise.”

The targeted  priority NESB communities include: African, Chinese, Indian and Middle Eastern.
