Thursday, September 24, 2015

Mack Blazely from Riverside High School has defeated over 2,000 students across Australia to be named the national champion of the 2015 AFL Fantasy Schools Competition.

The competition was open to primary and secondary students across Australia.

As part of the competition students were asked to create and coach their ‘ ideal AFL team’, selecting players within a salary cap and trading them throughout the season according to players’ performance in the AFL competition.

Each student’s team was then ranked against other entrants from their school, with Mack and the other best performing students progressing to the state championships. Mack then competed against other state champions in a finals series.

Mack will receive an I-Pad, $500 AFL Store voucher and a football signed by Trent Cotchin. Riverside High School will also receive an AFL 9s kit.
Other state winners were as follows:

SA –  Dylan Matthews, St Peter’s College

WA – Samuel Taylor, Guildford Grammar School

ACT – Callum Loaney, Melrose High School

QLD – Christian Ridley, Benowa High School

NT – Tom Nixon, St Philips College

NSW - Daniel MacGannon, Smith’s Hill High School
