AFL All Abilities Programs

2017 AFL National Inclusion Carnival

The AFL is committed to ensuring every Australian, regardless of their background, has access to Australian Football. A part of this commitment are the AFL All Abilities programs, designed to support people of All Abilities across the country to participate in our game.

AFL National Inclusion Carnival

The AFL National Inclusion Carnival is an annual representative carnival for athletes with an intellectual disability. The carnival not only gives some of Australia’s most talented footballers the chance to represent their State/Territory but is also an opportunity to showcase the significant abilities of footballers with an Intellectual Disability to the broader community. AllPlay

AllPlay is a joint initiative between the AFL and Deakin University funded through a philanthropic gift from Moose Toys designed to support children of All Abilities and their families to participate in NAB AFL Auskick. Through AllPlay we have designed a number of resources under three distinct sections – Coaches, Parents and Kids. AllPlay aims to change community attitudes towards participation in sport by children of All Abilities.

Wheelchair Aussie Rules

Wheelchair Aussies Rules was created in partnership with Disability Sports Australia and the Australian Defence Force Aussie Rules to provide people with or without a disability with an Australian football experience that has strong parallels with the traditional game. Based on AFL rules and played on a basketball or netball court, this wheelchair sport is open to anyone to play. Importantly, WCAFL is easy to play, and provides an environment whereby participation, enjoyment and safety are a priority.

These programs are all underpinned by local programs run by AFL State/Territory bodies. For more information on any  of the AFL All Abilities Programs please contact Logan Whitaker, AFL Inclusion (All Abilities) Manager – Logan.Whitaker@afl.com.au
